Job Description:

The Ceramics Kiln Technician in Edmonton is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining kilns used in firing ceramic products such as tiles, pottery, refractory bricks, and industrial ceramics. The role ensures the successful heat treatment of ceramic goods, meeting quality, safety, and production standards.

Primary responsibilities include loading and unloading ceramic items into the kiln, setting accurate firing schedules, adjusting temperature and atmosphere levels based on material type, and overseeing the entire kiln cycle. The technician is expected to identify any issues during the firing process—such as cracking, warping, or color distortion—and make adjustments accordingly. Additional duties include performing routine maintenance and calibrations on kiln equipment, keeping firing logs, and working closely with production supervisors and quality assurance teams to optimize firing parameters.

The position demands familiarity with thermal processing principles, ceramic material behavior at high temperatures, and strict adherence to safety protocols involving high heat and energy equipment.

Job Requirement:

Education: High school diploma required; a certificate or diploma in ceramics, kiln operation, or industrial arts is preferred.

Experience: 1–2 years in ceramics manufacturing or kiln operation is desirable.

Skills:

Understanding of ceramic materials and firing processes.

Ability to program and operate various types of kilns (gas, electric, tunnel).

Familiarity with pyrometric devices, temperature controllers, and firing software.

Attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.

Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

Language: Proficient in English for understanding safety instructions and process documentation.

Other Requirements:

Able to work in high-temperature environments for extended periods.

Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, or on-call as required.

Commitment to quality control and safe operation of heat-processing equipment.

Knowledge of Canadian occupational safety standards in manufacturing.
