Job Description:

The Reinforcing Ironworker in Quebec City is responsible for installing and securing steel bars (rebar) and mesh used to reinforce concrete in buildings, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure. This role is vital in ensuring the structural strength and integrity of concrete elements during construction. The ironworker reads blueprints and structural drawings, then cuts, bends, and ties reinforcing steel according to specifications before concrete is poured.

Key responsibilities include measuring and placing rebar, using tying wire and tension tools, assembling pre-fabricated cages, positioning rebar accurately within formwork, and coordinating with concrete teams to ensure alignment and stability. Reinforcing Ironworkers often work in confined or elevated spaces and must follow strict safety protocols at all times.

Job Requirement:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an ironworker apprenticeship or trade school program is preferred.

Experience: 2–4 years of experience in reinforcing or structural steel installation.

Skills:

Proficient in reading construction drawings and bar bending schedules.

Skilled in measuring, cutting, bending, and tying rebar.

Physically strong with good balance and manual dexterity.

Knowledge of Quebec construction codes and safety practices.

Language: Fluency in French is required; English is an asset.

Other Requirements:

CCQ certification or Red Seal endorsement in Ironworking is preferred.

WHMIS, Fall Protection, and site safety training certifications.

Comfortable working outdoors, in high places, and under tight deadlines.

Team-oriented, safety-focused, and detail-conscious.
