Job Description:

The Heating & Cooling Technician in Paris is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems in residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. This role is essential in maintaining a comfortable indoor environment, promoting energy efficiency, and ensuring compliance with building safety and environmental standards. The technician works across a wide range of facilities, including apartment complexes, office buildings, healthcare institutions, and public infrastructure.

Primary responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments of heating and cooling systems, identifying performance issues, and carrying out scheduled maintenance tasks. These tasks may involve cleaning or replacing air filters, checking refrigerant levels, calibrating thermostats, and verifying the operation of furnaces, boilers, compressors, and ventilation fans. Routine inspections are carried out to ensure systems function safely and within efficiency benchmarks.

When repairs are required, the technician may replace worn or malfunctioning components such as motors, pumps, coils, heat exchangers, belts, and sensors. Troubleshooting electrical connections and mechanical parts is a key part of the role. Technicians are also responsible for detecting gas leaks, checking airflow, and sealing ductwork to prevent energy loss and indoor air quality issues.

In Paris, where seasonal extremes range from hot summers to cold winters, the role demands flexibility and responsiveness to urgent heating or cooling failures. Technicians may be called upon for after-hours service, particularly in high-demand periods or in buildings that house sensitive equipment or vulnerable occupants. Preventive maintenance planning is a major aspect of the job to reduce downtime and extend system life.

This position suits individuals with strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to energy-conscious practices. The Heating & Cooling Technician plays a vital role in ensuring building occupants remain comfortable, safe, and productive throughout the year by maintaining reliable and efficient climate control systems.

Job Requirement:

Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating units (furnaces, heat pumps, boilers), cooling units (air conditioners, chillers), and air distribution systems (ducts, vents, air handlers). Understanding how to inspect, maintain, and service these systems is essential for ensuring year-round operational readiness and compliance with safety and efficiency standards.

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, and refrigerant leak detectors is required. Technicians should be comfortable working with various types of refrigerants and understand proper recovery, recycling, and handling procedures to comply with environmental regulations. Familiarity with programmable thermostats and modern energy control systems is also important.

Physical fitness and endurance are necessary, as the job involves lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in tight or elevated spaces such as attics, rooftops, and basements. Technicians must also be able to work in hot or cold environments for extended periods. Personal protective equipment should be used properly at all times to avoid exposure to electrical currents, chemicals, or extreme temperatures.

Organisational skills are vital for planning routine maintenance, documenting inspections, and managing repair logs. Time management is equally important when servicing multiple buildings, attending emergency calls, or coordinating with contractors for major system upgrades. Technicians are often responsible for ordering parts and tracking equipment inventory.

Communication skills are necessary when dealing with clients, property managers, or facility operators. The technician must be able to explain system issues, provide energy-saving recommendations, and educate building occupants on basic HVAC operation. A proactive, problem-solving mindset combined with high safety awareness ensures that the technician can maintain reliable heating and cooling systems that meet the needs of Paris’s diverse building environments.
