We are seeking an Automation Control Engineer to join our engineering team in Florence, Italy, within the Shipbuilding & Ship Machinery sector. This role focuses on the development, integration, and maintenance of automated control systems across a wide range of marine vessels, supporting propulsion, navigation, safety, and onboard operations.
Key responsibilities include designing control logic, programming PLCs, and configuring HMI/SCADA systems to monitor and regulate shipboard systems such as engines, power distribution, ballast systems, HVAC, and alarms. The engineer will also be responsible for selecting automation components, drafting functional design specifications, and producing control schematics and wiring diagrams.
The role requires collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to ensure that automation systems integrate seamlessly with vessel architecture. Participation in commissioning, sea trials, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support is expected.
Strong knowledge of marine automation standards, including those from IMO, SOLAS, and classification societies (e.g., RINA, DNV), is essential. Experience with automation tools such as Siemens, ABB, or Schneider Electric platforms is highly valued.

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline. A minimum of 3 years of experience in automation and control engineering, preferably in the marine or shipbuilding industry, is essential.
Applicants must be proficient in designing and programming PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric) and configuring HMI/SCADA systems. Experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and integration of sensors, actuators, and communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, CANbus, or Ethernet/IP is required.
Familiarity with functional safety concepts, marine automation regulations (IMO, SOLAS), and standards from classification societies (RINA, DNV, ABS) is mandatory. The ability to read and produce P&IDs, wiring diagrams, control logic diagrams, and technical documentation is expected.
Strong analytical and diagnostic skills are necessary for supporting system commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance optimization onboard vessels. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and mechanical engineers.
Fluency in Italian is required for coordination with shipyards and local teams, while proficiency in English is preferred for handling technical documentation and international collaboration. A detail-oriented mindset, adaptability, and a commitment to quality and maritime safety are key to success in this role.
