Job Description:
The Offshore Welding Technician in Qurain is responsible for executing various welding and fabrication tasks on offshore oil rigs, platforms, and vessels. The role ensures structural integrity, equipment durability, and the safe functioning of critical infrastructure through high-precision welding techniques. Welders must be adept in various methods such as SMAW, MIG, TIG, and flux-cored arc welding, often working in challenging environmental conditions including confined spaces, at heights, or underwater (if certified).
Key duties include reading blueprints and technical drawings, preparing materials, selecting appropriate welding tools and consumables, and performing welds on pipelines, platforms, supports, and machinery components. The technician must conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds, inspect completed work, and repair defective welds as necessary. They collaborate closely with engineers, safety officers, and rig supervisors to ensure all welding tasks meet specified tolerances and safety requirements.
Welders must also follow strict PPE protocols, participate in safety drills, and adhere to offshore codes and regulations. Documentation of work, equipment checks, and tool maintenance are part of the daily routine. Work schedules are typically rotational, with extended periods spent offshore.
Job Requirement:
Candidates must possess a welding certification from a recognized institution and a minimum of 4–7 years of experience in industrial or offshore welding roles. ASME, AWS, or ISO welding qualifications are often required.
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in structural, pipeline, and pressure vessel welding. Additional certification in underwater welding, if applicable, is a significant advantage. Familiarity with offshore safety standards, hot work permits, and confined space procedures is essential.
Physical strength, precision, and a high tolerance for physically demanding environments are necessary. The candidate must be able to interpret engineering drawings, maintain welding logs, and communicate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams. Offshore survival training such as BOSIET and medical clearance for offshore work are mandatory.
