Job Description:

The Kitchen Steward in Hamilton plays an essential behind-the-scenes role in maintaining the hygiene and functionality of a commercial kitchen environment, such as in restaurants, hotels, hospitals, or catering venues. Core duties include washing dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils using industrial dishwashing equipment or by hand, depending on the item. Stewards are also responsible for keeping kitchen floors and surfaces clean and free of spills, removing garbage and recycling, and organizing dishware for easy access by the culinary team. The steward may assist with basic food preparation, unloading food deliveries, and ensuring that storage areas are clean and organized. All tasks must be completed in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations. The role requires stamina and a willingness to work in a fast-paced, hot, and humid environment. Stewards must work efficiently, especially during busy meal service hours, and cooperate closely with chefs and waitstaff. Flexibility with shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, is often required depending on the nature of the facility. The kitchen steward helps ensure that operations run smoothly and that the kitchen is ready for food preparation at all times.

Job Requirement:

No formal education is required for this role, but candidates must demonstrate a strong work ethic, good hygiene, and the ability to handle repetitive, physically demanding tasks. Previous experience in hospitality or kitchen support roles is beneficial. Applicants should be able to follow instructions, adhere to cleanliness standards, and manage time effectively under pressure. Physical fitness, punctuality, and a cooperative attitude are essential for working in a busy kitchen environment.
