Job Description:
The Marine Propulsion Engineer in Zurich works within the Shipbuilding & Ship Machinery industry to design and optimize propulsion systems for vessels, including conventional shaft lines, azimuth thrusters, podded drives, and hybrid/electric propulsion. The engineer conducts power requirement analyses, selects propulsion equipment, and integrates the system into hull structures. Responsibilities include vibration analysis, efficiency calculations, and collaborating with hydrodynamicists to ensure performance targets are met. The engineer supports equipment testing, sea trials, and failure investigations. In Zurich, where precision engineering is emphasized, the role is vital to delivering quiet, efficient, and durable propulsion systems that meet regulatory and performance standards for both commercial and naval ships.
Job Requirement:
Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture
In-depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems and components
Experience in power calculation and performance modeling
Proficiency in software tools for analysis (e.g., CFD, MATLAB, ANSYS)
Familiarity with classification societies’ rules and efficiency standards
Strong understanding of shafting alignment and vibration control
Ability to evaluate and specify propulsion machinery
Hands-on experience with installation and sea trial testing
Problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
Fluent in English; German is desirable
