Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Vessel Inspector to ensure compliance and safety of ship construction and machinery systems in Rome, Italy, within the Shipbuilding & Ship Machinery industry. This role involves detailed inspections of ship structures, onboard systems, and mechanical components at various construction stages, ensuring alignment with international standards, client requirements, and classification society rules.

The Vessel Inspector will examine hull integrity, welding quality, outfitting installations, piping systems, propulsion units, and auxiliary machinery. Responsibilities include performing dimensional checks, conducting hydrostatic and pressure tests, evaluating workmanship, and reviewing construction documentation. The inspector will also coordinate with production, QA/QC, engineering, and external surveyors to confirm that work meets all technical and regulatory specifications.

Additional duties include identifying non-conformities, issuing inspection reports, verifying corrective actions, and supporting final vessel acceptance procedures. The role demands thorough record-keeping and active participation in safety and quality audits.

This position is critical to upholding vessel integrity, safety, and operational performance. Candidates must possess a diploma or degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in shipbuilding inspection, marine system evaluation, or classification society work is required.

Applicants should have a deep understanding of ship construction standards, including welding procedures, hull structures, piping systems, and machinery installations. Familiarity with international maritime regulations and classification society rules (such as RINA, DNV, ABS, or Lloyd’s Register) is essential.

The role demands proficiency in reading ship plans, technical specifications, and inspection checklists. Experience conducting dimensional checks, pressure testing, and visual inspections of mechanical systems is crucial. Certification in NDT (Level II preferred) and knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality frameworks are considered advantageous.

Strong communication skills are necessary for coordinating with engineers, supervisors, quality teams, and third-party surveyors. The ability to prepare detailed inspection reports, identify non-conformities, and ensure corrective actions are properly implemented is required.

Fluency in Italian is mandatory; working knowledge of English is preferred for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration. Attention to detail, integrity, and a commitment to safety and compliance in shipyard operations are key attributes for success in this role.
