Job Description:
The Solar Energy Technician in Ottawa is responsible for installing, maintaining, and inspecting solar energy systems for residential, commercial, and municipal projects. This role supports the transition to clean, sustainable energy sources in Ontario’s capital by ensuring the reliable operation of photovoltaic (PV) systems and related equipment.
Key duties include assembling and installing solar panels, connecting inverters and battery storage units, inspecting wiring and junction boxes, and monitoring energy output for optimal performance. The technician ensures compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code, local building standards, and manufacturer specifications.
The technician also provides post-installation support, conducts troubleshooting, and carries out preventative maintenance to extend system lifespan and performance. Coordination with engineers, electricians, and contractors is essential to safely integrate solar systems into existing power grids.
This role is ideal for professionals passionate about renewable energy who are comfortable working in outdoor conditions, including rooftops and construction sites.
Job Requirement:
Education: Technical diploma or certification in renewable energy, electrical engineering, or a related trade.
Experience: At least 2 years in solar panel installation or electrical systems preferred.
Skills:
Strong understanding of solar technology and photovoltaic systems.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and solar layout plans.
Skilled with power tools, testing devices, and digital monitoring systems.
Familiarity with rooftop safety and harness systems.
Language: Proficiency in English; French is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
Certification in Working at Heights, WHMIS, and First Aid preferred.
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting abilities.
