A Dementia Care Support Worker in Perth provides specialised in-home care and companionship to individuals living with dementia. This role focuses on enhancing quality of life, maintaining daily routines, and providing emotional and physical support while ensuring a safe and structured environment within the client’s home.
Key responsibilities include assisting with personal care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and mobility support. The worker also helps with meal preparation, feeding assistance, medication reminders, and general household tasks like cleaning and laundry to maintain a hygienic and comfortable living space.
Equally important is offering emotional support and cognitive stimulation through conversation, memory games, reading, music, or light physical activity. The support worker ensures a calm and reassuring presence, responding patiently to confusion, anxiety, or behavioural changes often associated with dementia.
The role may include monitoring changes in the client’s physical or emotional health and reporting observations to family members or healthcare professionals. The worker must provide care that respects the dignity, independence, and preferences of the individual at all times.
Shifts may vary and could include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight care, depending on the client's needs and progression of their condition.

Applicants must have previous experience in aged care or dementia support roles. A Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Aged Care, or Community Services is highly recommended. Strong communication skills, patience, and empathy are essential to provide consistent, compassionate care. The ability to remain calm under pressure, especially when handling behavioural changes, is critical. Candidates should be observant and capable of recognising signs of distress, discomfort, or health concerns.
Applicants must be physically fit to assist with mobility and personal care tasks. Familiarity with assistive equipment and safe manual handling techniques is important. Experience using hoists, slide sheets, or mobility aids is an advantage.
A current First Aid certificate and CPR training are required. A valid police clearance and working with vulnerable people check will also be mandatory. Flexibility in work hours and the ability to build trust with both the client and their family are essential for success in this role.
