Job Description:

We are seeking a Directional Drilling Engineer to design and execute horizontal and multi‑branch well trajectories at our Valencia operations. You will work closely with geoscience and reservoir teams to generate 3D well plans that optimize reservoir contact and maximize production. Responsibilities include generating trajectory models, selecting appropriate BHA configurations, and calculating build/drop rates and dogleg severities.

During drilling, you will monitor wellbore inclination and azimuth, adjusting drilling parameters to stay within plan tolerances. You will oversee real‑time survey data analysis, making prompt decisions to correct any planned deviations. You’ll review directional survey reports, ensure compliance with sidetrack and collision‑avoidance protocols, and maintain borehole integrity.

You will review directional drilling performance, analyze drilling efficiency, and suggest improvements in BHA selection, drilling motors, or rotary steerable systems. This role requires collaboration with tool vendors and service companies to evaluate performance and optimize tool run programs.

You’ll support drilling risk management by identifying potential hazards such as hole cleaning issues, torque and drag concerns, and wellbore instability. Your contributions will directly influence drilling efficiency, well placement accuracy, and overall project success in the field of complex subsurface engineering.

Job Requirement:

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in petroleum engineering, directional drilling, or a related discipline, and have at least four years of experience specifically in directional or horizontal drilling programs. Proficiency with directional planning software such as WellPlan, Shape, or Compass is essential. Hands‑on experience using rotary steerable systems (RSS), mud motor drilling, and downhole telemetry tools is required.

You should be skilled in directional survey interpretation, dogleg calculations, and torque/drag analysis. Certification in well control, mud logging, and downhole safety systems is mandatory. Good understanding of wellbore hydraulics, casing design, and hole cleaning dynamics enables you to anticipate drilling challenges.

Strong communication skills are essential to coordinate with operations teams, loggers, and surveying staff. You must exhibit problem‑solving aptitude to adapt to evolving downhole conditions and technical readiness to review and optimize BHA designs. Familiarity with Spanish industry regulations and ability to provide accurate well documentation and reports is highly advantageous.
