Job Description:
The Ballast Water Treatment Compliance Analyst in Dubai plays a critical role in ensuring vessels comply with international ballast water regulations, specifically those outlined by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and U.S. Coast Guard. The position focuses on evaluating treatment systems, monitoring operational practices, and ensuring documentation and discharge records meet legal and environmental standards.
Responsibilities include assessing ballast water treatment system performance onboard ships, reviewing discharge testing data, and ensuring all operations are aligned with Ballast Water Management Plans (BWMP). The analyst supports the selection and installation of compliant systems on newbuild and retrofitted vessels, including UV-based, electro-chlorination, or filtration systems. Additionally, they coordinate with classification societies for plan approval, witness commissioning tests, and conduct periodic compliance audits.
The analyst also prepares detailed reports for internal stakeholders, port state control, and regulatory authorities. They assist in crew training programs to ensure onboard personnel understand operation and reporting procedures.
Job Requirement:
A bachelor's degree in marine engineering, environmental science, or maritime operations is required. 4–6 years of experience in ballast water treatment systems or marine environmental compliance is essential. Knowledge of IMO Ballast Water Management Convention (BWMC), U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and ballast system technologies is crucial. Strong skills in report writing, system evaluation, and working knowledge of sampling/testing methods are required. Familiarity with regulatory databases and marine compliance documentation is a plus.
