Job Description:
The Apparel Sewing Technician plays a critical role in Toronto’s textile and garment production industry by ensuring garments are sewn to precise specifications with consistent quality. This position involves operating industrial sewing machines, assembling fabric pieces, and following technical patterns to produce finished apparel. The technician must work with a variety of textiles, including cotton, wool, denim, and synthetic blends, while maintaining speed, accuracy, and durability in every stitch. Daily responsibilities include reading garment blueprints, sewing seams, hems, and linings, attaching zippers or buttons, and inspecting garments for defects before passing them to quality control.
The role also involves routine maintenance of sewing equipment, such as threading machines, changing needles, and troubleshooting minor malfunctions to avoid production delays. Collaboration with pattern cutters, garment finishers, and supervisors is essential to ensure efficiency in meeting production targets. The Apparel Sewing Technician may work in mass manufacturing for retail clothing or on specialized projects for designer apparel houses. Strong manual dexterity, focus on detail, and adherence to workplace safety are critical. Job Requirement:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational certification in garment sewing or textile production preferred.
Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in apparel sewing, tailoring, or industrial garment production.
Skills:
Proficiency in operating single-needle, double-needle, and overlock sewing machines.
Ability to work with various fabrics, including delicate and heavy materials.
Strong eye for detail to detect flaws and ensure neat finishing.
Competence in reading garment specifications, patterns, and technical drawings.
Basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge.
Physical Requirements: Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and ability to sit for long sewing shifts.
