Job Description:

We are hiring an experienced and imaginative Animation Storyboard Lead to join our growing animation studio in Cologne. In this key creative role, you’ll guide the previsualization of animated projects by translating scripts into compelling visual sequences. Your work will set the tone, pacing, and visual narrative that animators and directors follow throughout the production.

You’ll lead storyboard development from initial thumbnails through detailed paneling, collaborating closely with scriptwriters, directors, and animators. You will also help define shot composition, character movement, and transitions that capture the emotional arc of each scene. As the lead, you'll supervise junior storyboard artists, provide feedback, and ensure alignment with the overall creative vision.

This role is ideal for someone with strong cinematic sensibility, storytelling ability, and a passion for visual storytelling in 2D or 3D animation formats.

Job Requirement:

You should have a degree in Animation, Illustration, Film, or related fields, along with 5–8 years of experience in professional storyboarding, preferably in animation or feature production.

An exceptional portfolio of storyboards, animatics, or previsualizations is required, demonstrating an eye for framing, movement, timing, and expression. Proficiency in storyboard software like Storyboard Pro, Photoshop, or Toon Boom is essential.

You must be capable of interpreting scripts into visual action quickly and clearly. Leadership experience is highly desirable, including mentoring junior artists and leading internal reviews. Familiarity with animation pipelines, character development, and continuity is important.

Strong communication skills, team collaboration, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced production environment are crucial. A deep love for animated storytelling and an understanding of narrative structure and pacing will help you thrive in this role.
