Job Description:
We are hiring a meticulous and historically aware Antique Furniture Restorer to join our heritage restoration studio in Cologne. The successful candidate will specialize in restoring 18th- to 20th-century European furniture, ensuring authenticity, preserving patina, and maintaining the historical integrity of valuable pieces. This position plays a key role in conserving antiques for private collectors, museums, and auction houses.
You will be responsible for assessing furniture condition, planning conservation treatments, and executing restorations using traditional woodworking, veneering, inlay, and finishing techniques. The role also involves collaborating with conservators, historians, and clients to produce documentation and ensure ethical restoration practices. Attention to craftsmanship and detail is critical in this position.
Job Requirement:
Candidates must have formal training in furniture restoration, cabinetmaking, or conservation, along with 4+ years of hands-on restoration experience. A deep understanding of wood species, historical joinery, and surface finishing is essential. Familiarity with tools such as chisels, planes, marquetry knives, and French polishing techniques is required.
You must demonstrate an ability to work sensitively with fragile and valuable objects. Experience restoring Biedermeier, Baroque, or Art Deco furniture is a strong asset. Fluency in English is mandatory, and German proficiency is highly recommended for local client communication.
