Job Description:

Job Title: Directional Drilling Engineer
Location: Florence, Italy
Industry: Energy & Utilities

The Directional Drilling Engineer in Florence is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing directional and horizontal drilling operations to support oil and gas exploration. This role involves precise well path design, tool selection, and real-time trajectory monitoring to ensure accurate borehole placement according to subsurface targets.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with geologists and drilling teams to develop well plans, determining bottom hole assembly (BHA) configurations, and utilizing measurement-while-drilling (MWD) and logging-while-drilling (LWD) technologies to steer the well. The engineer monitors drilling performance, makes on-the-fly adjustments, and ensures safety, cost-efficiency, and adherence to technical specifications throughout the operation.

The position demands advanced knowledge of drilling software, hydraulic modeling, and directional control systems. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex geological data are essential for maintaining wellbore integrity and minimizing drilling risks.

Fluency in Italian and English is required to communicate effectively with on-site and remote teams. The ideal candidate thrives in high-pressure environments, demonstrates initiative, and upholds strict safety and environmental standards. This role is vital to the success of complex drilling campaigns in Italy’s dynamic energy sector.

Job Requirement:

Job Requirements: Directional Drilling Engineer
Location: Florence, Italy
Industry: Energy & Utilities

Candidates for the Directional Drilling Engineer role in Florence must hold a bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geoscience, or a related field. A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in directional and horizontal drilling operations is required, preferably in both onshore and offshore environments.

Applicants must demonstrate expertise in well planning, BHA design, torque and drag analysis, and trajectory control. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Compass, WellPlan, or Landmark is essential. Familiarity with MWD/LWD tools and real-time data interpretation is critical for maintaining directional accuracy.

Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to make timely decisions in field conditions, and a thorough understanding of wellbore dynamics and drilling hydraulics are necessary. Knowledge of drilling safety protocols, risk management, and relevant API/ISO standards is expected.

Fluency in both Italian and English is important for technical reporting and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, along with a proactive and safety-first mindset.
