Job Description:
The Audio Engineer in Christchurch is responsible for managing the technical aspects of sound production in live events, recording studios, broadcast, and post-production environments. The role includes capturing, mixing, enhancing, and delivering high-quality audio that meets artistic and technical standards. Whether for music, film, podcasts, or corporate media, the Audio Engineer ensures clarity, balance, and fidelity in the final product.
Core duties involve setting up microphones, soundboards, audio interfaces, and other recording equipment. The engineer works closely with producers, musicians, directors, and other creatives to capture the desired sound during live or studio sessions. Post-production responsibilities include editing audio files, removing noise, applying effects, and finalizing audio for distribution using digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.
The engineer is also tasked with calibrating equipment, maintaining acoustic treatment in studios, managing signal flow, and troubleshooting technical issues. In live settings, responsibilities may extend to managing PA systems, wireless setups, monitor mixes, and live broadcast feeds.
Job Requirement:
A diploma or degree in audio engineering, sound production, or a related field is preferred, with at least 2–4 years of experience in professional audio settings. Candidates must be proficient in using industry-standard DAWs, audio plugins, and hardware consoles. A thorough understanding of audio signal chains, gain staging, EQ, compression, and mixing techniques is essential. Knowledge of acoustics, audio formats, and audio-over-IP systems is beneficial. Attention to detail, a good ear for sound, and strong communication and teamwork skills are key to success in this role.
