Job Description:
The Cable Assembly Technician in Hamilton plays a vital role in producing high-quality electrical and electronic cable assemblies used in various industries, including automotive, telecommunications, and industrial control. The technician is responsible for reading wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and specifications to accurately assemble wire harnesses, multi-pin connectors, and cable bundles. The work involves measuring, cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, and routing wires, followed by the careful application of insulation, shielding, and labeling.
Attention to detail is crucial, as the technician must identify color codes, wire gauges, terminal types, and pin configurations. Assemblies are typically subject to strict inspection criteria, and the technician must verify continuity and insulation resistance using multimeters or automated testers. Tasks also include terminating connectors, applying heat shrink tubing, and bundling cables neatly using ties or loom wrap.
This role supports both standard and custom cable orders, requiring efficiency, precision, and adaptability to changing production priorities. Working closely with engineers and quality inspectors, the technician must troubleshoot and correct faults, maintain proper documentation, and follow health and safety protocols, including ESD protection and tool maintenance.
Job Requirement:
Applicants should have a certificate or diploma in electrical or electronics technology, with at least 2 years of experience in cable or wire harness assembly. Familiarity with crimping tools, cable cutters, wire strippers, and soldering irons is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards and the ability to read and interpret technical schematics and wiring instructions. Good manual dexterity, color vision, and attention to detail are critical, along with a methodical approach to repetitive tasks.
