Job Description:
The Automation Engineer in Wellington is tasked with designing, developing, and implementing control systems and automated solutions that enhance production efficiency, safety, and reliability across various industrial applications. This role involves programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), configuring SCADA systems, and integrating sensors, actuators, and communication networks into a cohesive automation framework. Automation engineers collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process teams to define control strategies, troubleshoot automation failures, and optimize machine performance. They are responsible for drafting electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and documentation for compliance and future maintenance. These professionals also play a critical role in commissioning new systems, training operators, and ensuring adherence to industrial safety standards. Continuous improvement is a key part of the role, where engineers assess data logs and process KPIs to implement modifications that enhance throughput and minimize downtime. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, adaptability to evolving technologies, and precision in implementing mission-critical control logic.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must possess a degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering. Hands-on experience with PLCs (such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider), HMI development, and SCADA programming is essential. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP) and motion control systems is expected. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, a good understanding of process instrumentation, and practical experience with automation testing and debugging. Proficiency in CAD software for electrical drawings and an understanding of safety standards like IEC 61508 or ISO 13849 is beneficial. Excellent documentation and communication skills are essential.
