Job Description:

The Electric Motor Rewinder in Christchurch is responsible for disassembling, inspecting, rewinding, and reassembling electric motors and related rotating equipment. This specialist role is essential in industries that depend on the continuous operation of electric motors, including manufacturing, HVAC, and utilities. The technician’s tasks include stripping and cleaning motor windings, recording coil dimensions and winding specifications, cutting and inserting new coils, and insulating and reassembling the motor for performance testing. Using lathes, winding machines, varnishing equipment, and baking ovens, the rewinder ensures motors are rebuilt to meet or exceed original specifications. They must identify and repair faults in armatures, stators, rotors, or fields and perform dynamic balancing to reduce vibration. The role involves interpreting technical diagrams, following strict safety protocols, and maintaining detailed records of each motor’s condition and repairs. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a sound understanding of electromagnetic theory are crucial. The technician works in both workshop and field settings and must adapt to servicing various motor sizes and configurations.

Job Requirement:

Applicants must hold a certificate in electrical or mechanical engineering technology or motor rewinding, along with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in electric motor repair and rewinding. Competence in using precision tools, winding machinery, and insulation materials is essential. Familiarity with AC/DC motor construction, insulation testing, and fault diagnosis is required. The ability to read blueprints and electrical diagrams, good hand-eye coordination, and attention to fine detail are critical to performing high-quality work. A good understanding of electrical safety standards and experience with VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) processes is advantageous. A valid driver’s license and the flexibility to attend off-site repair jobs may also be necessary.
