Job Description:

The Fiber Optic Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cables to establish or maintain high-speed communication networks. The technician joins fiber strands using fusion or mechanical splicing techniques and ensures low-loss connections through careful alignment and inspection. Duties include reading splice diagrams, performing OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) testing, and using power meters and visual fault locators to verify signal continuity and performance. The splicer works in a variety of environments including manholes, aerial platforms, and indoor telecom rooms. Responsibilities also involve organizing cables, terminating connectors, labeling fiber trays, and preparing as-built documentation. The technician may be part of network expansion, FTTH (Fiber to the Home) deployments, or emergency service restorations. This position demands high precision, patience, and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards due to the fragility of fiber strands. Attention to detail, steady hands, and the ability to interpret complex fiber plans are essential to ensure minimal signal loss and long-term system reliability.

Job Requirement:

Applicants should have a diploma in telecommunications, fiber optics, or related disciplines. At least 2 years of hands-on experience in fiber splicing, cable termination, and testing is required. Proficiency in fusion splicing, OTDR analysis, and using fiber test equipment is essential. Knowledge of fiber types, color codes, and splice tray organization is important. The candidate must also be familiar with industry standards like ITU-T, ANSI/TIA, and health and safety procedures for confined spaces or elevated work. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites are often required. Strong organizational skills and accurate reporting are crucial.
