Job Description:
The Product Design Engineer in Auckland is responsible for taking conceptual ideas and transforming them into manufacturable products that meet customer expectations in terms of performance, usability, aesthetics, and cost. This role involves a blend of creative thinking and engineering expertise, working from ideation through prototyping, testing, and final production.
The engineer will collaborate closely with industrial designers, engineers, marketing teams, and manufacturers. Key tasks include designing parts and assemblies using CAD software (such as SolidWorks or Creo), selecting suitable materials, analyzing mechanical properties, and evaluating production methods to ensure efficiency and quality. They will also work on user experience design, ensuring that the final product meets ergonomic and functional criteria.
Prototyping using 3D printing, CNC machining, or rapid manufacturing techniques is an important part of this role. The engineer will also run performance tests, assess durability and user feedback, and apply design improvements accordingly. Strong emphasis is placed on sustainability, compliance, and cost-effectiveness in the product lifecycle.
Job Requirement:
Candidates must hold a degree in product design engineering, mechanical engineering, or industrial design engineering with 2–4 years of relevant experience in product development. Strong skills in 3D CAD, mechanical analysis, and design for manufacturing are necessary. Experience in materials selection, user-centered design, and prototyping technologies is required. Familiarity with lifecycle assessment, product certification processes, and intellectual property management is a plus. Creative thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work in iterative design cycles are essential traits for success.
