Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Academic Librarian to join our library team at our institution in Halifax, Canada. As an Academic Librarian, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic community by providing access to information resources, assisting with research inquiries, and promoting information literacy skills. You will collaborate with faculty, students, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective use of library resources and services. Key Responsibilities: Information Resources: Selecting, acquiring, cataloging, and managing print and electronic resources to meet the needs of the academic community. Ensuring the availability and accessibility of relevant materials for teaching, learning, and research. Reference and Research Assistance: Providing expert guidance and support to faculty, students, and researchers in locating and effectively using information resources. Assisting with research inquiries, literature searches, and citation management. Information Literacy Instruction: Designing and delivering information literacy programs, workshops, and instructional sessions to enhance students' research skills and critical thinking abilities. Collaborating with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. Collection Development: Assessing the collection needs of the academic programs and coordinating the ongoing development and maintenance of the library's collection. Evaluating resources, managing subscriptions, and making informed decisions regarding resource allocation. User Services: Managing circulation services, including borrowing, renewals, and interlibrary loan requests. Providing support for library technologies and online databases. Assisting users with accessing and navigating library resources and systems. Outreach and Promotion: Developing and implementing outreach strategies to engage faculty, students, and the broader academic community. Promoting library resources, services, and events through various communication channels. Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborating with faculty to support their research and teaching needs. Serving as a liaison librarian to specific academic departments or programs, providing specialized support and developing subject-specific collections. Professional Development: Staying updated with emerging trends and best practices in academic librarianship. Engaging in professional development activities, attending conferences, and actively participating in relevant professional organizations. Policy Development and Management: Contributing to the development and implementation of library policies, procedures, and strategic plans. Ensuring compliance with copyright and licensing regulations. Assessment and Evaluation: Participating in the assessment and evaluation of library services, resources, and user satisfaction. Collecting and analyzing data to inform decision-making and enhance library services. Qualifications: Education: A master's degree in library and information science or a related field from an accredited program is typically required. Experience: Previous experience working in an academic library or relevant library setting is preferred. Familiarity with library systems, electronic databases, and research tools. Knowledge of Academic Environment: Understanding of the academic environment, curriculum, and research needs of students and faculty. Awareness of current issues and trends in higher education and scholarly communication. Information Literacy Skills: Proficiency in information literacy instruction and the ability to design and deliver effective instructional sessions. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders. Ability to collaborate with faculty, students, and library colleagues to achieve shared goals. Technology Skills: Proficiency in library technologies, digital resources, and online databases.

Job Requirement: Education: A master's degree in library and information science or a related field from an accredited program is typically required. Additional subject expertise or advanced degrees may be beneficial. Experience: Previous experience working in an academic library or a relevant library setting is preferred. Familiarity with library systems, electronic databases, and research tools used in academic environments. Knowledge of Academic Environment: Understanding of the academic environment, curriculum, and research needs of students and faculty. Knowledge of scholarly communication practices, information literacy standards, and copyright regulations. Information Literacy Skills: Proficiency in information literacy instruction and the ability to design and deliver effective instructional sessions to support students' research skills and critical thinking abilities. Collection Management: Experience in selecting, acquiring, cataloging, and managing print and electronic resources. Familiarity with collection development practices, including resource evaluation, weeding, and budgeting. Reference and Research Support: Strong research skills and the ability to provide expert guidance and support to faculty, students, and researchers. Experience in conducting literature searches, assisting with citation management, and answering research inquiries. Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in library technologies, digital resources, and online databases. Familiarity with integrated library systems, discovery tools, and other library-related technologies. Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with faculty, students, and library colleagues. Ability to collaborate and build partnerships with stakeholders, including faculty members and academic departments.
