Job Description: We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Disability Support Advisor to join our team at our institution in Windsor, Canada. As a Disability Support Advisor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities, ensuring equal access to education and providing necessary accommodations. You will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to promote inclusivity and create an accessible learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Student Support: Provide individualized support and guidance to students with disabilities, including physical, learning, and mental health disabilities. Assist students in accessing appropriate accommodations, services, and resources to support their academic success. Accommodation Coordination: Collaborate with students, faculty, and relevant campus departments to determine appropriate accommodations based on students' documented disabilities and needs. Coordinate the implementation of accommodations and ensure their effective delivery. Disability Documentation Review: Review and assess disability documentation provided by students to determine eligibility for accommodations. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to relevant privacy laws and regulations. Advocacy and Awareness: Advocate for students with disabilities and promote awareness of disability-related issues across the campus community. Collaborate with faculty and staff to foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment. Accommodation Planning: Develop individualized accommodation plans in collaboration with students, considering their specific disabilities and academic requirements. Ensure accommodation plans comply with relevant laws, policies, and best practices. Disability Resource Referrals: Connect students with appropriate disability-related resources and services both on and off-campus. Provide information and referrals to support services such as assistive technology, counseling, tutoring, and academic support. Student Engagement: Engage with students through workshops, seminars, and support groups to enhance their self-advocacy skills, self-determination, and overall well-being. Foster a supportive and inclusive community for students with disabilities. Collaboration and Training: Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance their understanding of disability-related issues and promote inclusive practices. Deliver training sessions and workshops on topics such as disability awareness, accessible teaching strategies, and universal design for learning. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, accommodation plans, and service provision. Prepare reports and collect data as required for institutional reporting and compliance purposes. Professional Development: Stay updated with relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in disability support services. Engage in professional development activities, attend conferences, and participate in relevant professional organizations. Qualifications: Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as education, special education, counseling, or disability studies is typically required. A master's degree is preferred. Experience: Previous experience working in disability support services, student affairs, or a related field is preferred. Familiarity with disability-related legislation, accommodations, and best practices in higher education. Knowledge of Disabilities: Understanding of a wide range of disabilities, including physical, learning, and mental health disabilities. Familiarity with the impact of disabilities on students' academic experiences and the provision of appropriate accommodations. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Ability to communicate complex information clearly and sensitively. Empathy and Advocacy: Demonstrated empathy and sensitivity in supporting individuals with disabilities. Strong advocacy skills to ensure equal access and promote inclusivity on campus. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to assess students' needs, determine appropriate accommodations, and address challenges that may arise. Confidentiality: Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with relevant privacy laws and regulations.

Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in using technology and software tools related to disability support services. Familiarity with assistive technologies and accessibility features is beneficial. Organization and Documentation Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage student files, accommodation plans, and documentation. Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
