Job Description: We are currently seeking a motivated and environmentally conscious Forest Nursery Worker to join our team in Vancouver, Canada. As a Forest Nursery Worker, your main responsibility will be to assist in the cultivation and maintenance of forest nursery plants. You will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and development of young trees and plants for reforestation and restoration projects. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the cultivation and propagation of forest nursery plants, including seed collection, sowing, transplanting, and grafting. Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as watering, weeding, fertilizing, and pruning to ensure the health and vitality of nursery plants. Follow established procedures and protocols to maintain accurate records of plant inventory, growth rates, and other relevant data. Support the preparation of planting sites, including soil preparation, mulching, and installing tree protection measures. Operate and maintain nursery equipment and machinery safely and efficiently. Collaborate with a team of nursery workers to accomplish daily tasks and meet production targets. Adhere to environmental and safety guidelines to ensure compliance with regulations and promote a safe working environment. Assist in monitoring and controlling pests, diseases, and weeds to prevent their impact on nursery plants. Participate in reforestation and restoration projects, including tree planting and site maintenance activities. Stay updated with current practices and advancements in forest nursery management and apply them to improve nursery operations. Qualifications: Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education or training in forestry, horticulture, or a related field is advantageous. Experience: Previous experience in a nursery or horticultural setting is preferred, especially in the cultivation and maintenance of plants. Knowledge of Plant Propagation: Basic knowledge of plant propagation techniques, such as seed collection, sowing, grafting, and transplanting. Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and standing for extended periods. Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure accurate record-keeping and perform tasks with precision. Teamwork: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with a diverse group of nursery workers. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
