Job Description:
The Automotive Diagnostic Engineer is responsible for developing, executing, and improving diagnostic strategies for modern vehicle systems, including combustion engines, electrical components, and next-generation EV platforms. Based in Quebec City, this role ensures that faults in vehicle systems are accurately identified and resolved through the use of advanced diagnostic tools and software.
Key responsibilities include analyzing vehicle system data, developing diagnostic protocols, testing fault detection algorithms, and supporting service teams with technical troubleshooting procedures. The engineer collaborates with R&D, software, and quality departments to enhance the accuracy and usability of onboard diagnostics (OBD), including compliance with regulatory standards. Additional duties include documenting procedures, assisting in root cause investigations, and recommending hardware or software improvements to improve service efficiency.
This role requires a strong foundation in automotive electronics, data analysis, and system calibration. The engineer must stay informed on advancements in vehicle diagnostics, emissions control, CAN networks, and EV technologies.
Job Requirement:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics.
Experience: 3–5 years in automotive diagnostics, testing, or embedded systems development.
Skills:
Proficiency with diagnostic tools (e.g., ODIS, Techstream, CANalyzer, OBD-II readers).
Solid understanding of vehicle electronic systems and communication protocols (CAN, LIN).
Ability to analyze fault codes, logs, and vehicle data streams.
Strong problem-solving and documentation skills.
Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., SAE J1979, ISO 15031).
Language: Fluency in French is required; English proficiency is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Hands-on experience with EV or hybrid vehicle systems is a plus.
Ability to work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
High attention to detail and ability to meet technical deadlines.
Willingness to support workshops or customers with on-site diagnostics when needed.
