Job Description:
The Buffing Machine Operator is responsible for the upkeep and polishing of interior floor surfaces in commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities across Ottawa. This role centers on operating specialized floor buffing machines to restore shine, remove scuff marks, and maintain slip-resistant, clean surfaces in high-traffic areas such as hallways, lobbies, cafeterias, and medical facilities.
Key duties include preparing floors for buffing by sweeping and mopping, selecting appropriate pads or polishing agents based on surface type, and operating machines safely and effectively. The operator monitors floor conditions, reports wear or damage to supervisors, and assists in scheduled floor maintenance activities such as stripping and waxing. This role may also include light custodial duties when machines are not in use.
Buffing Machine Operators ensure floors remain visually appealing and safe for building occupants. Their work supports health, safety, and facility cleanliness standards and contributes to the overall impression of the facility.
Job Requirement:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: 1 year of experience operating buffing or floor maintenance equipment is ideal.
Skills:
Hands-on knowledge of buffing machines and cleaning agents.
Attention to detail and surface finish quality.
Ability to recognize different flooring materials.
Familiarity with floor care safety and procedures.
Language: Basic English for reading labels, signs, and safety instructions.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 25 kg).
Flexibility to work evening or early morning shifts.
Knowledge of WHMIS regulations is an advantage.
