Job Description:
The Building Systems Supervisor in Calgary is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and structural systems in large facilities such as office towers, hospitals, or educational institutions. This role ensures that all building systems operate efficiently and safely while supporting the facility’s cleaning and environmental health standards.
Key responsibilities include managing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems; supervising technical staff and contractors; conducting regular inspections; and ensuring compliance with municipal codes and workplace safety regulations. The supervisor also collaborates with janitorial and custodial teams to ensure environmental systems align with sanitation goals.
This position demands a balance of technical expertise and leadership. The Building Systems Supervisor must monitor energy usage, support sustainability initiatives, troubleshoot system failures, and provide timely responses to maintenance requests—all while ensuring minimal disruption to building occupants.
Job Requirement:
Education: Technical diploma or trade certification in building systems, mechanical engineering, or related field. Red Seal or equivalent certification is a strong asset.
Experience: Minimum 5 years in facility maintenance or building operations, with 2+ years in a supervisory or lead technician role.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and automation systems.
Strong leadership, scheduling, and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with energy efficiency practices and regulatory compliance.
Competence in using building management systems (BMS).
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Language: Proficient in English; multilingual skills are an asset.
