Job Description:
The Building Caretaker in Edmonton is responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, security, and minor maintenance of residential, commercial, or institutional properties. This role combines cleaning duties with facility oversight to ensure the building remains in safe, orderly, and functional condition. Core responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, garbage collection, disinfecting restrooms, maintaining common areas, and conducting routine inspections of lighting, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The caretaker may also coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or services.
Caretakers are often the first point of contact for tenants, residents, or staff and must be capable of responding to minor service requests, handling emergency situations, and reporting major maintenance concerns to property managers. Depending on the property, the role may include tasks such as lawn care, snow removal, or monitoring building access after hours.
This position requires reliability, hands-on problem-solving, and a proactive attitude toward building maintenance. As a visible and trusted presence on-site, the caretaker plays a key role in maintaining occupant comfort and property value.
