The Auto Body Panel Technician in Wellington specializes in restoring the exterior panels and bodywork of vehicles that have been damaged through accidents or wear. Responsibilities include assessing body damage, removing and installing panels, smoothing surfaces, correcting dents, and preparing vehicles for paint. Technicians use tools such as hydraulic presses, dent pullers, grinders, and sanders. Coordination with paint technicians and collision repair staff is frequent, and maintaining repair records and customer updates is part of the role. The technician ensures all exterior finishes meet quality and safety standards while adhering to environmental and workplace safety regulations.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must hold a recognized qualification in panel beating or automotive body repair, with 2–4 years of relevant experience in a repair shop. Expertise in metal shaping, filler application, and surface preparation techniques is essential. Candidates must have good manual skills, spatial awareness, and familiarity with various materials including plastics and high-strength steel. Basic welding knowledge and teamwork abilities are important. The job requires physical endurance, attention to detail, and a full driver’s license. Experience with body alignment systems and spray booth processes is a plus.
