Job Description:
The Art Restorer is responsible for the conservation and restoration of artworks, ensuring their preservation and aesthetic integrity in Umm Salal, Qatar. This specialized role involves meticulous examination, analysis, and treatment of various art forms, which may include paintings, sculptures, textiles, or decorative arts. Key duties include assessing the condition of artworks, documenting their state and proposed treatments, and carefully performing cleaning, repair, and stabilization techniques using appropriate materials and methods.
The restorer will work with precision to reverse deterioration, repair damage, and bring artworks back to their original or intended appearance, while strictly adhering to ethical conservation standards. This position requires a deep understanding of art history, material science, and chemical properties, combined with exceptional manual dexterity and an eye for detail. The Art Restorer plays a critical role in preserving cultural heritage and artistic masterpieces for future generations within Umm Salal's growing cultural institutions.
Job Requirement:
Education: Master's degree in Art Conservation, Fine Arts with a specialization in restoration, or a closely related field. Formal training and apprenticeship are highly valued.
Experience: 3-5 years of proven experience as an Art Restorer or Conservator, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful restoration projects across various mediums.
Skills:
Expert knowledge of art historical periods, artistic techniques, and materials.
Proficiency in various restoration methods, including cleaning, consolidation, infilling, retouching, and structural repair.
Deep understanding of material science and the chemical properties of pigments, varnishes, glues, and solvents.
Exceptional manual dexterity, precision, and patience for delicate and intricate work.
Strong observational and analytical skills for diagnosing damage and determining appropriate treatments.
Meticulous documentation abilities for recording condition, treatment plans, and post-treatment reports.
Language: Fluency in English is essential; Arabic is a strong advantage.
