Job Description:
The Blast Hole Driller in Ajman is responsible for operating drilling rigs and associated equipment to create blast holes in open-pit or surface mines. These holes are used for placing explosives that fracture rock for easier excavation and mineral extraction. The driller reads and interprets drilling plans, positioning the rig accurately, and adjusting drilling parameters such as depth, angle, and diameter according to site specifications. Ensuring drill hole accuracy is critical for effective and safe blasting.
Key responsibilities include maintaining drilling equipment, replacing worn or damaged drill bits, and performing minor mechanical repairs to prevent delays. The driller monitors machine performance during operation and makes real-time adjustments to drilling speed, pressure, or alignment based on ground conditions. Recording drilling metrics and reporting daily progress to supervisors are also part of the job.
Safety is paramount, particularly around handling potentially explosive materials. The driller must work closely with explosives technicians and blasting supervisors to ensure correct hole placement, depth, and spacing. Additionally, the driller must adhere to environmental and health regulations, including dust suppression, noise control, and ground vibration monitoring. The role requires concentration, coordination, and awareness of environmental hazards and site-specific risks.
Job Requirement:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and vocational training or certification in drilling operations is highly advantageous. Prior experience in mining or construction drilling is preferred. Candidates should have strong mechanical skills, familiarity with drill rig operation, and the ability to work in rugged outdoor environments. Physical fitness, excellent hand-eye coordination, and a safety-first mindset are essential. Knowledge of blast pattern design and geological formations is beneficial. Good communication and teamwork abilities are also critical, especially when coordinating with blasting crews.
