Job Description:
The Equipment Assembly Fitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and testing complex mining and construction machinery, including crushers, screening plants, hydraulic units, and mobile equipment. The role involves reading and interpreting technical blueprints, aligning mechanical components, installing drive systems, bolting structural parts, and performing hydraulic and pneumatic hookups as required. The fitter ensures that all parts and systems function correctly before equipment is commissioned for operational use.
Key responsibilities include fitting shafts, bearings, and seals; torqueing bolts to specification; and adjusting mechanisms to ensure proper alignment and movement. The role may require modifying components for site-specific applications, conducting dry runs, and working closely with commissioning engineers. Safety is critical, and the fitter must follow lockout/tagout procedures, use proper lifting and rigging techniques, and comply with all safety protocols related to working with heavy equipment.
The fitter also conducts basic troubleshooting during initial tests and prepares detailed reports on assembly progress and any mechanical issues encountered. Work can occur in assembly yards, workshops, or directly at mining or industrial sites, requiring flexibility and mobility.
Job Requirement:
A diploma or certification in mechanical fitting, machine assembly, or industrial maintenance is required, along with 3–5 years of experience in assembling large mechanical systems. Strong skills in reading engineering drawings, using hand and power tools, and understanding hydraulic and mechanical systems are essential. The role demands precision, physical fitness, and strict adherence to safety standards in high-risk environments.
