Job Description:

The Artisan Baker in Edmonton is responsible for crafting high-quality, hand-made baked goods using traditional methods and premium ingredients. Working in a bakery or specialty kitchen environment, this role involves preparing doughs from scratch, shaping loaves, and operating commercial ovens to produce a wide variety of bread, pastries, and specialty baked items that meet both culinary standards and customer expectations.

Key duties include measuring and mixing ingredients, managing proofing times, monitoring baking conditions, and finishing baked goods with attention to texture, flavour, and presentation. The Artisan Baker ensures daily freshness, maintains a clean and organized baking station, and contributes creative input for seasonal or custom products. They also ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards in all preparation and handling processes.

This position requires a deep understanding of baking techniques, precision in execution, and a passion for quality. The Artisan Baker works closely with pastry chefs, kitchen assistants, and retail staff to deliver fresh and unique baked items in a timely and consistent manner.

Job Requirement:

Education: Diploma or certificate in Baking and Pastry Arts or equivalent culinary training preferred.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in artisanal or commercial baking.

Skills:

Expertise in dough fermentation, shaping, and artisan techniques

Ability to operate bakery machinery and ovens safely

Creativity in developing new recipes and product variations

Strong attention to detail and time management

Understanding of food safety, storage, and allergen control

Language: Functional English required for communication and following recipes.

Other Requirements:

Ability to work early mornings or overnight shifts

Physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 25 kg

Commitment to cleanliness and maintaining a sanitary workspace
