Job Description: We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Kitchen Manager to join our team in Halifax, Canada. As an Assistant Kitchen Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the overall operations of our kitchen, ensuring efficient food preparation, quality control, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards. Key Responsibilities: Kitchen Operations: Assist the Kitchen Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and plating. Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation. Team Supervision: Provide guidance and support to kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants. Assist in training new team members, scheduling shifts, and monitoring performance to ensure a cohesive and productive team environment. Menu Execution: Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and portion control to maintain consistency and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to introduce new dishes and specials while considering customer preferences and dietary restrictions. Quality Control: Maintain a keen eye for detail and enforce strict quality control measures to ensure that all food items meet our standards for taste, appearance, and freshness. Regularly taste and inspect food to identify any areas for improvement. Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring kitchen inventory levels, including ingredients, supplies, and equipment. Collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to ensure timely ordering, proper storage, and minimize waste while maximizing efficiency and cost savings. Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, food handling guidelines, and sanitation standards. Conduct regular inspections to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment, addressing any concerns promptly. Communication and Collaboration: Foster effective communication and collaboration with other departments, such as front-of-house staff and management, to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction. Coordinate with suppliers and vendors as needed. Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new techniques, and culinary advancements. Make recommendations for process improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost-saving measures to enhance kitchen efficiency and productivity.

Job Requirement: Previous experience in a similar role within the food and beverage industry, preferably in a supervisory or assistant management capacity. Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary trends, and kitchen operations. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team. Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and food handling practices. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in inventory management and cost control. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
