Job Description:
The Agricultural Tractor Operator in Wellington is an essential role in supporting farming operations, including soil cultivation, planting, fertilizing, irrigation, and harvesting. The operator is responsible for maneuvering agricultural tractors and attached implements such as plows, seeders, tillers, and sprayers across farmland. This position involves working closely with farm managers, agronomists, and field laborers to carry out seasonal farming tasks efficiently and in accordance with crop schedules.
Key duties include adjusting tractor attachments, monitoring operating conditions, and ensuring timely completion of field tasks such as spreading fertilizer or preparing seedbeds. Operators may perform light mechanical maintenance, refuel equipment, and clean machinery to extend service life. The role may also include transporting materials such as compost, tools, or harvested crops using trailers or loaders. Operators must adapt to working on sloped or uneven terrain and respond swiftly to weather changes that affect field conditions.
In addition to field operation, operators are expected to record daily activities, equipment usage, and any issues encountered during tasks. The job requires a deep awareness of farm safety, including PPE usage, proper chemical handling, and the avoidance of soil compaction or crop damage during equipment operations.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must have experience with agricultural machinery and hold a valid tractor operator license or certification. An understanding of crop cycles, field mapping, and basic maintenance of farming equipment is expected. Candidates must be physically capable of operating machinery for extended hours, often in hot, cold, or wet environments. A keen eye for field detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately are necessary. Familiarity with GPS-guided systems or precision agriculture tools is a plus.
