Job Description:

The Hydro Excavation Operator in Hamilton plays a critical role in non-invasive digging using pressurized water and vacuum technology to excavate soil around underground structures. The role supports utility maintenance, pipeline exposure, potholing, daylighting, and trenching operations where traditional digging methods pose risks of damage.

Operators are responsible for setting up and operating the hydro-excavation unit, monitoring water pressure and suction levels, and directing excavation according to utility layouts. The job includes driving the excavation truck to worksites, maintaining compliance with environmental and safety standards, and safely disposing of excavated slurry at approved disposal facilities. Operators must also inspect and clean the equipment, manage hoses and fittings, and complete site documentation.

This position involves working near live utilities, requiring heightened awareness and coordination with utility locators and site supervisors. The ability to identify soil types and adjust equipment settings accordingly is important for excavation efficiency and safety.

Job Requirement:

Candidates must hold a heavy vehicle license with hydro-excavation or vacuum truck experience. Familiarity with water-jetting equipment, confined space regulations, and underground utility detection is essential. Must be physically fit, able to work in various weather conditions, and capable of reading utility drawings. Certifications in confined space entry or safety training are preferred.
