Job Description:
The Industrial Pump Technician in Hamilton is responsible for installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining industrial pump systems used in manufacturing, water treatment, oil and gas, and chemical facilities. These systems include centrifugal, diaphragm, rotary, and positive displacement pumps. The technician ensures smooth fluid transfer operations by diagnosing faults, performing preventive maintenance, and replacing mechanical seals, impellers, and bearings.
Key duties include reading pump schematics, pressure ratings, and motor specifications to troubleshoot operational issues. The technician dismantles pump assemblies, inspects internal components for wear, cleans filters and strainers, and reassembles units following safety protocols. Aligning motors, setting tolerances, and checking flow rates or system pressures are routine parts of the job.
Collaboration with engineers, safety teams, and process operators is critical to minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with operational and environmental regulations. The technician also keeps maintenance logs, calibrates gauges, and participates in shutdown overhauls or commissioning new systems.
Job Requirement:
Education: Certificate or diploma in mechanical engineering or industrial maintenance.
Experience: 3+ years in pump maintenance or fluid systems.
Skills: Mechanical repair, fault diagnostics, use of hand/power tools, pump alignment, understanding of fluid dynamics.
Other Requirements: Ability to work in noisy, industrial settings, handle heavy components, and follow safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confined space).
