Job Description:
The Custodial Worker is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in commercial, educational, and public buildings throughout Edmonton. Working under the supervision of facility managers or janitorial supervisors, the custodial worker ensures that assigned areas—including offices, classrooms, lobbies, washrooms, and corridors—are clean, safe, and orderly. Daily tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and emptying trash and recycling bins.
Additional responsibilities may involve minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, refilling supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.), and reporting any safety hazards or maintenance issues to supervisors. Custodial workers may also assist in setup and breakdown for events or meetings by moving furniture or equipment as needed.
The role is physically demanding and typically performed during early morning, evening, or night shifts. It requires attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
Job Requirement:
Education: No formal education required; high school diploma is an asset.
Experience: Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred but not mandatory.
Skills:
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and use of cleaning equipment.
Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely following workplace safety guidelines.
Time management skills to complete assigned tasks within shift hours.
Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform repetitive tasks.
Detail-oriented and dependable.
Language: Basic English communication skills necessary for understanding instructions and safety information.
Other Requirements:
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, or overnight shifts as required.
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during work.
Ability to follow strict hygiene and sanitation protocols.
Reliability and punctuality are essential.
