Job Description:
A Compactor Operator is sought in Florence to operate heavy compaction machinery used in road construction, landfill management, and infrastructure development. The role involves handling various types of compactors, such as smooth drum rollers, padfoot rollers, and landfill compactors, to compress soil, gravel, asphalt, or waste materials to the required density.

The operator will be responsible for conducting pre-operation inspections, safely maneuvering the equipment over assigned areas, and ensuring uniform compaction according to engineering specifications. Daily tasks include interpreting compaction plans, monitoring soil or material conditions, and adjusting machine settings for optimal performance.

The Compactor Operator must collaborate with site supervisors and surveyors to meet project specifications and timelines while ensuring safety compliance. The role demands a high level of attention to detail, spatial awareness, and physical endurance.

Candidates should have experience operating heavy equipment in construction or earthmoving projects, a valid equipment operator license, and familiarity with job site safety protocols. Good communication skills and the ability to work under varying weather conditions are essential.

  • Licensing & Certification:

    • Valid heavy equipment operator license recognized in Italy, specifically for compaction machinery.

    • Safety training certification (e.g., site safety, equipment operation, PPE usage) is preferred.

  • Experience & Skills:

    • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating various types of compactors (smooth drum, padfoot, vibratory, or landfill) in construction, roadwork, or earthmoving projects.

    • Knowledge of soil types, compaction techniques, and moisture content evaluation.

    • Ability to interpret compaction plans, site grading layouts, and equipment operation manuals.

    • Skilled in performing routine maintenance, safety checks, and identifying mechanical issues in machinery.

  • Physical & Safety Requirements:

    • Physically fit to endure long hours of operation, exposure to vibration, dust, noise, and outdoor environments.

    • Adherence to all workplace safety regulations, traffic rules, and environmental guidelines.

    • Capable of wearing and maintaining proper personal protective equipment (PPE) during all operations.

  • Communication & Personal Attributes:

    • Proficiency in Italian; basic English is an advantage.

    • Strong spatial awareness, attention to detail, and operational precision.

    • Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
