Job Description:

A Directional Drilling Engineer in Salmiyah is responsible for the design, execution, and evaluation of directional drilling programs that allow for the extraction of oil and gas resources in complex geological formations. This position involves the use of specialized equipment and software to control the direction and angle of a wellbore to access reservoirs that are not reachable through vertical drilling.

The engineer works closely with geologists, drilling supervisors, and clients to develop drilling plans that align with reservoir targets while minimizing risks and costs. They also monitor the real-time performance of directional drilling tools and make adjustments to maintain the planned trajectory. Responsibilities include compiling drilling reports, maintaining tool integrity, and conducting post-drilling evaluations to optimize future operations.

The Directional Drilling Engineer must be familiar with rotary steerable systems (RSS), measurement while drilling (MWD), and logging while drilling (LWD) technologies. The job demands a strong analytical background to evaluate drilling data and make on-the-spot decisions in high-pressure environments.

Job Requirement:

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in directional drilling is required, with hands-on exposure to rotary steerable systems and horizontal or extended reach wells.

Proficiency in directional drilling software such as COMPASS, WellArchitect, or DrillBench is essential. Candidates must possess strong data interpretation and real-time problem-solving skills. Industry certifications related to well control, safety, and directional drilling are highly preferred.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities are vital, as the engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams. The role requires frequent travel to remote or offshore drilling sites and the flexibility to work in rotational schedules. Familiarity with drilling operations in the Middle East and experience navigating local regulatory requirements will provide a competitive edge.
