Job Description:
As a Building Systems Specialist in a hospital or medical facility in Auckland, your core responsibility is to oversee the performance, maintenance, and integration of essential infrastructure systems—ranging from HVAC, power distribution, lighting, and elevators to building automation, fire alarms, and access control. This role is highly technical and critical to ensuring a safe, energy-efficient, and reliable environment for patients, staff, and medical equipment.
You will monitor control systems through digital interfaces, perform diagnostics, and execute preventative and reactive maintenance. In hospitals, system redundancy, uninterrupted power, and compliance with health sector regulations are top priorities, requiring constant readiness and precision. You may also support commissioning of new systems during construction or renovation and collaborate with engineering, IT, and maintenance teams for systems upgrades and safety audits.
Regular tasks include energy consumption tracking, climate control calibration, generator testing, emergency power routing, and systems fault response. Your ability to troubleshoot integrated systems—such as those supporting operating theatres or isolation rooms—is vital. Reporting performance metrics, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring regulatory compliance form a significant part of your responsibilities.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must hold a diploma or degree in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 5+ years of experience in commercial or healthcare facilities. In-depth knowledge of building management systems (BMS), fire safety systems, electrical distribution, and automation controls is essential. Familiarity with New Zealand building compliance standards and energy efficiency frameworks is required. Excellent problem-solving, systems thinking, and collaborative skills are crucial. Certifications in HVAC controls, BMS software (e.g., Schneider, Honeywell), or electrical registration are advantageous.
