Job Description:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a vital member of the patient care team, supporting nurses and physicians by providing hands-on assistance with daily living tasks and basic clinical duties. CNAs in Hamilton’s healthcare facilities work in hospitals, long-term care homes, and rehabilitation centers. Their responsibilities include helping patients with personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, toileting), mobility support (transfers, repositioning, walking), feeding assistance, and monitoring vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure. CNAs also assist in maintaining a clean patient environment, changing bed linens, and reporting changes in a patient's condition to the nursing team. They play a key role in enhancing the comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being of patients, especially those with limited independence. In busy care settings, CNAs provide the first line of patient contact and support nurses by preparing rooms for admissions or discharges, transporting patients, and maintaining care logs.
Job Requirement:
Applicants must have completed a certified CNA training program and hold registration or certification as required under New Zealand healthcare standards or equivalent. At least 1–2 years of experience in a hospital or aged care facility is preferred. Knowledge of basic nursing practices, infection control procedures, and patient mobility techniques is essential. The role requires strong communication skills, compassion, attention to detail, and physical stamina to support patients in demanding conditions. Candidates must be able to follow clinical instructions precisely and work well in a team-based environment.
