Job Description:

The Cardiovascular Technician plays a critical role in supporting cardiologists in diagnosing and treating heart and vascular conditions. The technician operates and maintains a wide range of specialized diagnostic equipment including electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiography, stress testing systems, and Holter monitors. This position involves preparing patients for procedures, explaining tests, positioning them appropriately, and ensuring accurate data recording. Cardiovascular Technicians are responsible for monitoring patients during testing and responding promptly to signs of distress or abnormal test results. They assist in interventional procedures such as angiography and cardiac catheterizations and are often involved in maintaining procedure logs, generating reports, and coordinating with physicians and nurses for accurate patient care documentation. The role demands high attention to detail, manual dexterity, and adherence to stringent hygiene and safety protocols. Effective communication and the ability to reassure patients are also essential, especially when working with vulnerable individuals. In a fast-paced hospital like those in Christchurch, the technician must be ready to respond in emergency settings and provide support in both inpatient and outpatient departments.

Job Requirement:

Candidates must hold a diploma or bachelor’s degree in cardiovascular technology or a related healthcare field, along with at least two years of experience in a clinical cardiovascular lab or diagnostic imaging unit. Practical expertise in ECGs, stress tests, and cardiac monitoring systems is required. Skills in patient care, data interpretation, and equipment troubleshooting are vital. Certification by a recognized cardiovascular credentialing body is preferred. Familiarity with hospital documentation systems and basic computer literacy is expected. The technician must possess strong interpersonal skills, physical stamina for long standing hours, and a professional approach to confidential patient information.
