Job Description:
The ECG Technician in Wellington is responsible for performing electrocardiographic tests to monitor and record the electrical activity of the heart. Working within hospitals, cardiology clinics, or diagnostic centers, the technician supports physicians in diagnosing and monitoring heart conditions such as arrhythmias, myocardial infarctions, and cardiac abnormalities. Key responsibilities include attaching electrodes to the patient’s chest, limbs, and torso, operating ECG machines, and producing accurate test results for interpretation by a cardiologist or physician.
The technician must ensure that patients are comfortable and informed about the procedure. They are also responsible for reviewing the patient’s medical history for contraindications, properly preparing the skin for electrode placement, and troubleshooting signal issues. In some settings, they may also assist with stress tests, Holter monitor setup, and ambulatory monitoring procedures. Proper labeling and data entry of patient test results into the electronic medical records system is an integral part of the role. The technician also ensures that all equipment is calibrated and sanitized in accordance with infection control standards.
Job Requirement:
Applicants should hold a certificate or diploma in cardiovascular technology, allied health science, or a related field. Prior experience in a cardiology or clinical diagnostic setting is advantageous. A solid understanding of human anatomy, cardiac function, and ECG interpretation basics is expected. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and efficient during urgent or high-pressure situations are essential.
