Job Description:

The Bacteriology Specialist in Al Rayyan focuses on the study, identification, and characterization of bacteria to support clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical research, and public health initiatives. The role involves isolating bacterial strains, analyzing pathogenicity, assessing antibiotic resistance patterns, and contributing to vaccine and antimicrobial development efforts. This specialist plays a crucial part in laboratory surveillance of infectious diseases and ensures adherence to biosafety standards.

Core duties include culturing and staining bacteria, conducting biochemical and molecular tests, maintaining accurate records of laboratory procedures, and assisting in outbreak investigations. The specialist also collaborates with microbiologists, epidemiologists, and healthcare providers to interpret findings and provide insights for disease control measures. Regular contributions to scientific reports, publications, and presentations are also expected.

Located in Al Rayyan, home to several hospitals and research institutions, this role supports Qatar’s broader health security and biomedical research objectives.

Job Requirement:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Bacteriology, or a related life science discipline.

Experience: 3–5 years of laboratory experience focused on bacteriological diagnostics or research.

Skills:

Proficiency in bacterial culturing, staining (Gram, acid-fast), and sensitivity testing.

Familiarity with PCR, ELISA, and bacterial genome analysis.

Understanding of antibiotic resistance mechanisms and testing standards (e.g., CLSI).

Meticulous laboratory documentation and reporting skills.

Knowledge of biosafety levels and sterile techniques.

Language: Proficiency in English is required; Arabic is an advantage.

Other Requirements:

Experience working in clinical, food, or pharmaceutical bacteriology labs.

Ability to work in high-containment environments (e.g., BSL-2/3 labs).

Willingness to contribute to health surveillance or public health response projects.

Commitment to scientific integrity and public health impact.
