Job Description:
The Chinese Language Translator in Al Gharrafa is responsible for translating written and verbal content between Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and English or Arabic to support business, academic, technical, and government communication in Qatar. This role ensures accurate and culturally appropriate translations across various domains, including trade documentation, engineering reports, legal papers, training materials, and marketing content.
The translator works closely with localization teams, project managers, and subject matter experts to adapt content for target audiences while preserving its original intent and tone. Responsibilities include maintaining consistency in terminology, proofreading translated documents, supporting cross-cultural communication, and assisting with interpretation as needed during meetings or events.
Ideal candidates are fluent in Chinese and at least one other working language, with a strong grasp of regional language differences, industry-specific terminology, and professional translation tools.
Job Requirement:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Chinese Language Studies, Linguistics, or a related field. Certification in translation is an advantage.
Experience: 2–4 years of professional translation experience, preferably involving Chinese-English or Chinese-Arabic language pairs.
Skills:
Proficiency in Simplified and/or Traditional Chinese.
Strong understanding of Chinese culture and writing systems.
Accuracy in translating technical and business materials.
Familiarity with CAT tools and terminology databases.
Attention to nuance, context, and formatting.
Language: Native or fluent Chinese; professional fluency in English required; Arabic proficiency is a plus.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple translation projects.
Experience working in multicultural or international business settings.
Knowledge of Qatar’s trade, education, or infrastructure sectors is beneficial.
Willingness to support occasional interpretation assignments.
