Job Description:
An Automation Control Engineer in Bern within the Shipbuilding & Ship Machinery sector is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automation solutions for marine vessel systems. This includes automation for propulsion, navigation, ballast management, fire detection, and environmental monitoring systems. The engineer creates system logic, configures automation hardware and software, and develops user interfaces to ensure operational control and feedback. They conduct system integration tests, troubleshoot software or hardware faults, and ensure all automated functions comply with maritime safety and efficiency standards. The role also involves creating functional specifications, user manuals, and maintenance protocols. Based in Bern, this engineer contributes to the advancement of intelligent, reliable, and safe marine automation systems.
Job Requirement:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Automation, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering
Proficiency in automation platforms (e.g., SCADA, PLCs, RTUs)
Experience in marine control systems and integrated automation systems (IAS)
Skilled in programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text)
Knowledge of IMO, SOLAS, and classification society rules
Familiarity with system safety, redundancy, and fail-safe design
Strong diagnostic and system tuning capabilities
Experience with FAT, SAT, and system commissioning
Collaborative mindset with cross-functional engineering teams
Fluent in English; German is a plus
