Job Description:

The Bathymetric Survey Specialist is responsible for conducting underwater mapping and depth measurements to support energy, utility, and environmental projects in Calgary. This role involves collecting, processing, and analyzing bathymetric data to produce accurate maps of riverbeds, reservoirs, and other aquatic environments. The specialist collaborates with engineers, geoscientists, and environmental teams to inform project planning, design, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include deploying sonar and other survey equipment, conducting field measurements, analyzing data to produce charts and 3D models, and ensuring high accuracy of all bathymetric outputs. The Bathymetric Survey Specialist also supports environmental assessments, hydrological studies, and water resource management projects. They maintain survey instruments, adhere to safety protocols, and assist with data integration into GIS and other mapping systems.

In Calgary’s energy and utilities sector, accurate bathymetric data is critical for infrastructure design, hydropower operations, and environmental protection. The role requires technical expertise, precision, and the ability to interpret complex data. Strong collaboration and communication skills are essential for working effectively with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring that projects meet both operational and regulatory standards.

Job Requirement:

Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Hydrography, Environmental Science, or a related field. Specialized training in bathymetric surveying is preferred.

Experience: 2–5 years of experience in bathymetric surveys, hydrographic data collection, or geospatial analysis. Canadian project experience is advantageous.

Skills:

Proficiency in sonar, echo-sounding equipment, and GIS software.

Ability to process, analyze, and visualize bathymetric datasets.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in field and office work.

Knowledge of Canadian environmental and water regulations.

Effective teamwork and communication skills.

Ability to prepare technical reports and maps for stakeholders.

Language: Proficiency in English; French is an asset.
