Job Description:

We are hiring a Directional Drilling Engineer to support our advanced drilling operations based in Munich. This role focuses on the design and execution of directional drilling programs that optimize well placement and maximize hydrocarbon recovery. The ideal candidate will work closely with the drilling team, geologists, and reservoir engineers to plan well trajectories, control borehole stability, and ensure safety throughout the drilling process.

Your responsibilities will include evaluating subsurface data, creating detailed directional drilling plans, selecting drilling tools and technologies, and monitoring drilling parameters in real time. You will also analyze drilling performance, troubleshoot problems such as wellbore instability, and implement corrective actions to minimize non-productive time.

The position requires in-depth knowledge of directional drilling tools like mud motors, rotary steerable systems, and downhole sensors. Experience with industry software for well path design and survey management is essential. Strong communication skills are required to coordinate between field teams, contractors, and project managers.

Job Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in directional drilling, preferably in oil and gas fields.

  • Strong knowledge of directional drilling technologies, including mud motors, rotary steerable systems, and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) tools.

  • Proficiency in drilling software such as WellPlan, Compass, or similar directional drilling design tools.

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret subsurface data and drilling parameters.

  • Proven experience in wellbore trajectory planning, well control, and drilling optimization techniques.

  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and under high-pressure situations.

  • Good communication and report-writing skills in English; German language proficiency is advantageous.

  • Willingness to travel to drilling sites and work flexible hours as required.
